montana . college of medicine

The unexpected end of the soviet influence in eastern Europe left numerous of construction sites in the middle of the work with no funding and never the less no plan for further development. Such is the case with the unfinished surgery department, planned as an extension to the hospital in Montana, northwest Bulgaria. The project relies on a larger concept for country scale distribution of healthcare facilities, typical for centralized government planning. The absence of such leaves the so far completed structure with no reasonable function.

The structure is largely notable due to its disproportionate scale in comparison to the city. Such a positioning loads the project with an image defining function, the value of which can be either positive or negative. The close proximity of the structure to the existing hospital and the typical floor plan allow for us to think for its redevelopment via college of medicine.
