PAMO VALLEY CARBON NEUTRAL HOUSE

ARC 402
Pamo Valley Carbon Neutral House

A proposal for one of two homes in Pamo Valley, an area devastated by wildfire back in 2007. Alongside with HMC Architects, we designed a two bedroom residence to replace those that were destroyed by the fire. These homes designed will serve as sustainable low cost alternatives to FEMA prototypes, adapted to local conditions, and with the potential to become replicable alternatives for fire prone areas in Southern California.

The design of these homes were based on six design principles; achieve low ecological impact, attain a high level of durability, resist fire, response to specific climatic conditions, blend into the natural surroundings, and easily replicated for developments of future projects. Based on these six design principles, we implemented a wide range of sustainable systems within our design to not only meet the criteria, but attempt to solely reach one solution — carbon neutrality.
