Hand Lettering Details

“I came with Hand- lettering by copy and paste all the random artworks that I like on the internet. In my early work, I just found that the letters were so easy to redraw, they just had some straight lines, and some curves. So, it was not too much difficult to have one letter. But when I had some definitions and saw some real amazing artworks from behance, I knew that I had  to find the elements that made them better, or the way to control them. But because I saw it very simple, so it came to a matter, that I did not know what to go. I also looked at amazon and got some typography books, but the result wasn’t satisfied me, they just talked about fonts, typefaces, stuffs about the normal font-set letters, which I had already had. So I gave up and tried to find “them” myself. I continued copy and paste, and also collected many artworks. And I did find out some most basic rules that works on every single project.”

People just know about Hand lettering is like a part of “traditional typography”, but I think they’re much different. When I said I’m a typographer, people just thought that I work with some magazines, creating fonts, or do some web projects, but that’s not the matter. What I always thought that the letters in fonts/ typefaces/ even they’re so beautiful, but they are just created as the single letter, with their role is standing alone, and they can be paired with any other letters in their font set. And that’s not the Hand lettering, what Hand lettering do, is make each letter work with the the next, the previous, and other letters in the text, then work with the whole text, the decorations and so on. Well, that’s the reason why we have to create the letter by hand, and why the Hand lettering artwork looks really good than if we just arrange the letters in normal font. By deeping into it, I thought that I should do somethings, even if it’s small, that’s creating a short tutorial shows how I approached the Hand lettering, and how people can create the letters of our own. I did break one artwork in small pieces and make some common samples for it. And with your creative and your new arragement. The letters will truly are yours.

The samples are come from 2 sources. First from me with my customers, and the second is downloaded from behance.net, and they’re the references which their designers share it for free with low resolutions. You can see the most images source at 2 addresses below.
