We live in a society of consumerists, where we believe we can have food on-demand, en-masse, breeding the idea that food is indispensable. We’ve formed a detachment from where our food comes from.

We are unaware and uncaring of the sickening statistics on animal welfare in the food industry. Chickens become crippled from hormones that ensure unsustainably rapid growth, then are slaughtered at just 6 weeks old. Over 90% of Australia’s pork products come from factory farms where up to 300,000 sows are kept inside sheds continuously pregnant and confined.

Animal welfare is not the only issue: animal industries account for more greenhouse gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, trains, shops & planes in the world combined. The world needs more ethical and sustainable alternatives for meat-eaters.

The Eat Goat Meat campaign was the beginning of a change for our fast-track consumerist society. The campaign revolved around an all-inclusive package which encouraged the consumer to make goat meat their first choice to cook with at home. It included: a recipe book; a set of hand-crafted forks containing herb seeds to be grown by the consumer; information cards explaining how to grow the seeds to then use in goat meat recipes; and a puzzle set which educated on different cuts of goat meat. A link was formed between the consumer and where the meat is coming from, with the campaign supporting ethically-farmed and environmentally-friendly goat farms.
