Dean's Window Cleaning

There are three versions of the logo, as seen above
Dean's Window Cleaning is an independent window cleaning business run by a cool guy named Dean. He wanted a logo to put on his truck and eventually shirts and hats. The jumping-off point for this design was a logo that had been proposed to -- but not used by -- another window cleaner. I did the best I could to capture the things he liked about the other logo without plagarizing it (although the other designer's logo was never used).

The two most satisfying parts of this for me: (1) working out the positive and negative space so that it could be reduced to one color, and (2) integrating the shape of the squeegee into the "A" letterform.

The resulting logo ended up with a retro vibe, which was not a goal going in, but we both liked it as a happy accident.

Below are some of the previous stages in the design process.
A few late-stage iterations that didn't pass the final exam. The position of the squeegee made Dean's name more legible, but I just couldn't pass up the combo of the squeegee handle with the crossbar of the "A". Plus, some of these are just a little too busy for me. I really wanted to get the window panes in there, but not badly enough.
