I decided my "Birdhouse" and "Puppet" photo composites needed a little grunging up, some texture. This is my original "Birdhouse" image. . . . 

 

 

 

. . . and this is the update. For an antique circus poster look, I added a color halftone efect to make it look like it had already been printed. For the paper background, I folded a sheet of cheap newsprint and shot a photo of it. I placed that photo on a layer above the original image and set its layer blending mode to "Linear Burn" which darkens the underlying layer where there are dark areas on the top layer, specifically in the folds, making it appear that the poster had been printed, folded, and had its edges roughed up over the years. 

 

 

 

This composite is an illustration of a song lyric by They Might Be Giants done in the style of an antique prayer card.

 

 

 

 

 

For this update, I applied the Oil Painting filter and a canvs texture, then layered the image over a photo of a stretched canvas.
