Rust - Technical

I took this image because it represents something that has changed its form with time
I found the texture exciting and intriguing
The technique I used was macro to capture some of the elements on the steel plank
There was no particular process for taking this image it was just making sure the camera focused properly
This image works in a way that it has a story to tell, I could have put the focus on the pipe at the end of the photo to draw the eye in on that object
Dissolve - Technical

Ice melts when left in the sun maybe sometimes fast and sometimes slow but always with time
I like how the ice becomes glossy and the pool of water just surrounds it
The camera was set on black and white and macro setting
I took many different shots of the ice on different surfaces and i found it worked best on this white tile in the sun
As this image was taken in the sun at that angle it produces a soft shadow
Not within nor without - Technical

I took this photo because with time only half of the flower had died while the other petals were still in full bloom
I found it intriguing because there was two different textures of the flower
The camera was set on macro but I liked how this shot turned out unfocused as it softens the image similar to a painting
I took a couple photos from further back but like how this flower works as the centre
The lighting i could have changed to be warmer that would have added to the softness
Wear and Tear - Technical

This drawing represents that sometimes beauty has a limit and nail polish is one of those things that suffers with time
I thought this illustration was a different representation of time
Water colour paints and pencils were used for this illustration
This was the first drawing i did and i decided to stick with it because i liked how it turned out
The scanner did over expose the drawing but i used photoshop to salvage it
Candle Flame - Technical

I was motivated to make this illustration because we watch candles burn but we dont think how they burn
Burning candles to me are symbolic of something that can change with time, the longer they burn the less they are
The technique I used for this technical illustration was the dotting effect for shading and I also turned it from being just a candle to a diagram of a candle
I made this illustratin using a fine tip pen, previously I drew and illustration of a candle with a pencil and x-hatch shading but i feel this is a better technique
I believe this image works as it is simple and shows the reader what they need to know
Dry Earth - Commentary & Storytelling

A lot of commentary illustrations showcase world issues, politics etc. and I believe this illustration is very effective
Oil rigging is such a pressing issue at the moment and this illustration could demonstrate a version of our future on Earth
I used watercolours for this image to show how the drill is soaking up the colours and nature of the world
I lightly sketched the image then coloured over the skecth with the water colour pencils, after I scanned the image I retouched it in photoshop to make the colours bolder
I think this illustration works as it is simple but clearly demonstrates the meaning

Lenses of time - Commentary & Storytelling

This image portrays the evolution of taking photo, one we took photos on cameras of other things, now we use our smart phones to take photos of ourselves
Smart phones have become so technologically advanced we use them more often than cameras to document our lives or ourselves
I made this illustration using a 2B pencil
My process involved thinking of how i was going to portray this illustration, I also did some shading on this illustration but no particular technique was used, the borders were added in photoshop
This illustration could have also worked in colour making the top one 70's vibe with lots of colour and the other more contemporary minimalistic to show a bigger contrast
Missing Tenant - Commentary & Storytelling

This photograph shows neglected letter box that over time has become so full that the mail is spilling out onto the shrubs
It shows how things can become littered and chaotic if not taken care of
The shot was taken on manual 400 ISO
I took a few different shots zoomed in, landscape and also from another angle
I believe this image works as a portrait shot however, it could have worked better taken at a different time of the day or if i cut out some of the shrub
Slice of Sunshine - Commentary & Storytelling

This image was created during the studio class, it tells the story of how something small and innocent can brighten a dull space
I was inspired to create this image because it really showcases the watering can in a natural environment, a little worn and rusted but still cheerful
The camera was set on program at 800 ISO and edited in photoshop with selective colouring
The first shot i took with the flash and over exposed the photo and also reflected off the watering can
This image works to capture emotion with the selective colouring and because the focus is in the centre of the image
Annie's Ring - Commentary & Storytelling

This image respresents a pieced of my family history and an item that will continue to be handed down through the family
I took this image because it fits into the theme with time as the photo shows the damage that the ring has
The camera I used had a macro lense and was set on 800 ISO, 1/25 shutter speed, f - 4.0
The process involved setting up the ring so it was in the correct light to capture the scratches and editing was undertaken in Photoshop
I like the way the image turned out however the material texture does take a little away from the focus of the ring
They Control Us - Identity & Persuasion

We are no longer in control of our phones but they are controlling us and our lives
I wanted to do this illustration to get people thinking about how much we rely on our technology especially phones in our everyday lives
I went for a cartoon/comic type of illustration, something simple but effective
This image was drawn with a fine art pen I then applied the colour block technique in photoshop
This illustration works in a way that it tells the whole story in one frame. I could have added in some background to add to the texture of the image.

Different sides of life - Identity & Persuasion

I experimented taking this images because i feel it captures how our mood can change with time and change our identity or form of expression
I was inspired by the colours and capturing the movements in one shot
I made a cellophane filter for the lense i also had the camera set on 2 seconds and 100 ISO and macro to get some detail
My process involved experimenting with different movements and shutter times ans settings I also played with the colour on photoshop
I feel these images work together and also seperately because of the filter colours the second I used yellow when shes smiling to get that nostalgia happy emotion into the image
Who are you? - Identity & Persuasion

I created this image because to me its a form of persuasion and also getting fit is something that only happens over time
I really liked the colours of the magazine they really work to stand out and capture the readers eye
This photograph was taken on program mode ISO 800/ no flash
My process involved taking the photo and layering the image I then edited the image with the pasterise setting
The layering of the image works to really drill the persuasion into the viewer and the extra words make it seem really chaotic
Ghostly grasp - Identity & Persuasion

This image respresents movement with time and blurred identity and confusion
I was inspired at the time to take this image as i was experimenting with different lense filters
This image was taken on 800 ISO on 2 seconds with the flash
I created this image by holding a plastic bag over the lense and held my hand up to the light of a window i then edited in photoshop using the curves setting then blacked out the background
This image works within the theme however maybe a little more definition of the hand would work better
Toy soldiers - Identity & Persuasion

The image above represents persuasion as it gets the viewer thinking
I was inspired by the original image to create a scene based from historical events
The image was taken on manual at 800 ISO without flash
I didnt alter the original image however made the illustrations in illustrator and used the overlay effect of the ships
I find this image unique and cleary displays its message
Oh Vector - Portrait

This image is a vector portrait of myself created in illustrator
I found this technique simple but effective and enjoyed the process
The image was created in illustrator with the pen tool
The process was quite lengthy the vector was created from a webcam image I traced over the image and created shapes then used a pre-selected colour swatch to fill in the shaped
I liked the way this image turned out and would try the technique again
Hey its me! - Portrait

This image above is a self-portrait taken during a studio class
I was inspired to take this image because of the lighting and backdrop set-up
This lighting set-up is of contrast and a 90 degree angle from where I was sitting
The process involved setting up the ligthing and camera then i continued the process by editing the image on photoshop
This image works to contrast the face however I still feel the light could have been pointed on an angle more directly so that the contrast would be stronger and that I would get the shadow of my nose across the other side of my face
The Humble Heart - Portrait

This image is a portrait of my dad who for me represents home and love
I was inspired to choose this image from many because of the light in his eyes and his skin looks soft but weathered
The lighting used was a tungsten bulb set at 90 degrees from the model camera set on 400 ISO, F5.6 and1/50 shutter speed
My process was setting up the black backdrop then chair set up with lighting and camera set up with tripod
I like the way this image turned out it evokes pathos by the way it looks like hes thinking or remembering and the relflection in his eyes work well
Pieces of me - Portrait

The image above is a collage i created from my collection of magazines from home
I was inspired to make this collage because it was different and used materials i had at home
The image was created from old magazines
The process was easy as it only involved finding body parts to create the face
I do think this image works as a whole with the extra magazine clippings
Sister - Portrait

The image is a portrait of the last of my sisters who I share my home with
My inspiration hit me when I spotted the purple sequin material and I thought it would make a beautiful filter
As this photo was taken outdoors I am only using natural lighting, the camera settings were 1600 ISO, 1/250 shutter speed and 4.0 F-stop
The process for the image involved taking several shots and choosing the best one, I then continued to edit the image in photoshop using the colour balance and patch tool to remove any skin redness and blemishes
I edited this photo in two different colour shades and found this version worked the best
Rock Word - Texture & Pattern

The image above is a rock texture turned into word art this image also represents a bit of forced perspective
This image was inspired by the reading on blackboard for week 6 and so i wanted to imitate the style in my own way
The photo was taken on macro 400 ISO
Firstly i took the photo then came up with the words that describe the image the rest of the process was taken out on illustrator changing the colours of the words
The bottom image works best when compared to the first and middle opaque images to show the transition
You're Perfect Just The Way You Are - Texture & Pattern

I created this image because for me my books represent home and the pattern fits into the theme
I was inspired to create this image when i saw a similar image on pinterest
I took this photo on manual settings 800 ISO
The process involved taking the photo, creating the pattern and applying over the image of the book
This image works as it creates nostalgia and play on pathos with the colours and feminine pattern
Old Bird - Texture & Pattern

This photograph is of the family pet bird Wakka who is older than myself
I was inspired to take this photo because up close you can see a lot of different textures of the feathers, eyes and beak
The photo was set up on 100 ISO, 1/250 shutter speed, 2.8 f-stop and macro
The process was as simpleas capturing the photo and editing the colours and adjusting the sharpness of the feathers in photoshop
The image works for texture however the bars from the bird cage take away from the photo a little because they are uneven
The Black Spot - Texture & Pattern

The image is an item from my home mixed with spotted pattern which sharply reflects off the surface of the spoon
The inspiration from this image came from a similar photo I saw on pinterest and i wanted to recreate it as I found it really interesting
The image was taken on 800 ISO, 1/60 shutter speed, 4.0 f-stop, macro
I took different shots of the photo at different angles and also with different patterns and used photoshop to edit
I think the concept of the image works however the with different lighting I could have diffused the shadow
The Weave - Texture & Pattern

This image incorporated pattern and tecture from a straw hat that hangs in my house
When I saw the hat I was inspired because of the texture and then i wanted to capture the pattern of the straw weave
The image was taken on 800 ISO, 1/40 shutter speed, 2.8 f-stop, macro
I took a few different shots but this one came out the best i found the colours of the original image to stark and boring so I used the selective colour and colour balance tools in photoshop
This image could work better if the camera picked up more detail of the texture
Purple Fruit - Macro

The image above was shot taken exploring the use of macro using a home grown tomato
I was inspired to take this image when i saw the raw texture of the tomato and wanted to obscure and manipulate the image
The image was taken on 2000 ISO, 6.0 shutter speed, 32 f-stop
The camera was set up on a stand so that and I used an extension button to take the photo so that i didnt touch the camera and blur the image I distorted the colours in photoshop using the selective colour tool and cleaned up the image using the dodge and patch tools
I like the way the image turned out however it would look better if there was more focus on the tomato skin
Dinner Time - Macro

This image was an experimentation of abstract macro, my goal was to capture the shape and colour of the objects
I was inspired to take this image when i saw a similar abstract photo of a fork and wanted to create my own version
The lense i used was macro set on 800 ISO, 1/20, f - 4.0
Again my process involved taking different shots at different angles and seeing which worked best and continued to edit and enhance the image in Photoshop
I think this is one of my best images it really works to capture the object but focuses more on shape and colour
Strange Wonders - Macro

The image is an attempt at 'brave new world' & forced perspective
My inspiration came from the tiki head object and I felt I could create something interesting
The camera setting was ISO 200, 1/40 shutter speed and f - 8.0
My process involved taking the image of the background then of the person and editing the person into the image using Photoshop
This image works however would be more effective if the person was wearing different clothing to fit into the theme
A Little Vistor - Macro

The image is gecko found in my home and the technique i used was macro to capture the detail of the lizard
I wanted to take this image because a lot of macro photography captues insects and small animals
The lense i used was macro set on 1600 ISO, 1/15 shutter speed, f- 2.8
I took a lot of shots of the lizard to get the right one and edited the image in Photoshop enhancing the colour and sharpness
This image is very effective however I would of liked it if the aperture of the lense wasnt so dense
Drink Up - Macro

The image represents a common item found in the home taken in abstract macro
My inspiration came from seeing an image which was similar and i was drawn in by the colours of the straws
The lense i used was macro set on 1600 ISO, 1/125 shutter speed, f- 2.8
The process involved taking a variety of shots and there was no editing involved for this image
I do like how the image turned out however would of liked if the camera focused on all the tops of the straws
