Stingrays are Australia's Under 23 Women's Ultimate representative team. I was approached to design the training jersey for their World Ultimate Championships 2015 campaign as a pro bono project.
The requirements were straight-forward: their team name, their team values, some official logos, the player name and number, and an Australian flag.
I had a hunch the team would be looking for something colourful and fun, however, as training jerseys are often traded with players from other teams as a souvenir from the tournament. Accordingly I created two colourways with bright gradients as a backdrop for a stingray. I knew these colours would be eye-catching and also make good use of the jerseys' sublimated printing.
I sourced an illustrated stingray that was looming and cute - a tricky combination! Concentric circles provided a focal point for the design and tied it back to the sport's distinctive round disc.
The design was well received by the team and they went on to place 4th overall. Go Stingrays!

Concept 1: Pink and blue colourway

Concept 2: Aqua and blue colourway. This option was chosen by the team.
