I think every person’s behaviour is a reflection of his/her past. Belonging to the city of lights (Karachi), being away from home, I feel a certain sense of personal and emotional baggage that stirs in me, a tinge of nostalgia. It is that feeling of pleasure and/or sadness caused by remembrance of yesteryears filled with the comfort of home full of personal possessions and memories. Call it if you please “A nostalgic journey”.
As for the visual representation, my work involves elements of those possessions and memories ranging from things like the Grill from the window at home to the memorable places in my hometown and even objects like worn clothes and old photos each representing an invaluable fragment of history. The use of old, rusted ‘trunks’, to me, is the metaphor of an everyday icon from the past.
