    Acrylic on Canvas
by Richard Tourtelot
Born in St. Pertersburg, Florida in 1978, my interest in art began early. Drawing, painting and doodling in notebooks were early hallmarks that I had found a creative outlet for expression that was truly my own. Throughout childhood and into early adulthood my ambition seemed to grow right along with me and helped to shape my pursuits to hone my technique through a more formal means of education.

In 2001 I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida. My college years provided the necessary foundation and environment for me to come into my own as an artist while gaining the approval of my classmates and personal mentors. I was recognized for several of my artistic achievements during this time including the Best of Ringling Juried Show Award, exhibited in the Selby Gallery in Sarasota, Florida.

While I tend to enjoy working with many variations of mixed media, as of late I have been working mainly with acrylic layered paint and varnishes. The subject matter in my most recent series of paintings revolves around the many sides of the human face. Aiming to accurately capture the emotion of my subjects and making careful use of methods such as cropping to enhance a feeling; each painting quietly tells its own unique story, describing the authenticity of the human experience we all share.
