Conference Gift Booklet

This is a booklet that I created for my Art 230 Typography class at BYU-Idaho. We were tasked with choosing a talk from the most recent General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I chose this talk by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf the Second Counselor in the General Presidency entitled "On Being Genuine". This is the final project for this course so we were to use all of the typography skills we have learned this semester as well as Adobe InDesign as the software.
I began by creating a 7 x 10 inch 12 page document in Adobe InDesign with facing pages. I set it up using a two-column grid and loaded the talk into the document. I then tagged each section of the talk and assigned paragraph styles like body copy, titles, subtitles, block quotes, etc. After that was finished I started styling the document by adding character styles to different parts that I wanted to emphasize in a different way than it was originally tagged. I used various weights and colors of the fonts Bembo Book MT Pro and Trade Gothic Next LT Pro throughout the design. I paid close attention to many of the design skills. Alignment is crucial for something of this nature and I appreciated the columns as well as rulers and grids for this project. I tried to use ample white space to give pause for the reader. I used the typography rule of grouping areas of text by proximity throughout the booklet. I feel this was a very good project for the end of our semester to test all of the skills we have learned. I have learned so much from this class and I appreciate our instructor sharing his time and talents with us. After many, many revisions, this is the final version of my booklet.
