Work July 2015:

The Mask:
We spend so much of our lives online. Are we ever showing our true indentity?
Are we keeping it hidden behind an infinite amount of avatars, profile pics and statue updates?
Are humans creating a different kind of animal? A virtual, multi-faceted and colourful beast?
Camomile Ryan:

An exploration of my thoughts and feelings on social interaction.
Meeting that old friend for a cuppa. Meeting that blind date for the first time.
Those moments become so distinctive, we can access them with smell, sound and touch.
Remembering the noisy traffic meeting your friend, the warm cup of tea during your first date
with that special somebody. This illustration is a celebration of those special moments.
Tattoo:

For my new art for 2015, I wanted each new piece to have a bolder thematic concern or a stronger narrative.
I wanted to create a piece that signified strength. In art history, the large cats like the Lion, the Tiger and the Puma were used to symbolise strength. After further rough work, I sketched out an idea based upon a tiger or lion growling - one thing that came to my mind was a large and intricately detailed tattoo.

I researched vintage tattoos and vintage pattern work, to bring a bold and more graphic look to my concept.
I selected a cleaner and simpler pallette to color the final piece, while also using my Wacom tablet to redraw and add elements, closely following my original drawing. The original drawing was done using pencil and technical pen on marker paper.
I first sketched the piece out in my A5 notebook. I scanned in my rough pencils, retouched them and scaled them up to A3.I printed them off and used them as a template for the final A3 drawing.

I drew the illustration using 0.05 - 0.8 Unipen Fine Line technical pens, I then edited and coloured it in
Adobe Photoshop CS6 with a Wacom Intuous 3 tablet.
