Eating Carp fish on Christmas Eve in Poland is a must. Carp breeding in Poland has a long tradition that was started by monks in the second part of 13th century. The first guide book about carp breeding dates back in 1573. The oldest and biggest pond farm complexes built in medieval Poland are situated in the water basin of upper Vistula and Oder Rivers and in the region of middle part of Bzura River (near from Łowicz). Today these regions still are the heart of carp farming in Poland. Just about 60 km to the south from Cracow, around the Vistula river, region called Carp Valley is situated. It is one of the biggest Carp producers in Poland. Local fishermen breed fishes almost the same way, they were doing it 100 years ago.
