The 'King of Russia' - Magazine Spread
University Project
For this project, I was told to go out and find a £1 object from any charity shop in the city. Once I had found an object, I had to create a story around it. Managing to get my hands on an James Bond: Thunderball - collectable Aston Martin DB5. I decided to go with a spy theme for my story and created a ridiculous Bond derivative plot. My chosen object in my story was a gadget used by spies which could shrink in size with its driver inside it, and it was used during the Cold War. This ridiculous story allowed me to produce and exciting two page magazine spread explaining my object. The main character of my story, other than my object, was George Blake whom I researched and discovered he was a British Secret Iintelligence Service Agent who worked for the KGB. The story is obviously completely ficticious as Blake was infact a double agent towards us in real life, while in the story he is devoted to the UK. The visuals are basically a collage of several things surrounding Blake's life, in the lower left of the spread we can see Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster. Blake's figure itself is split in two with a shadow of his KGB alter ego becoming more and more unlike himself, I used the USSR Hammer and Sickle to represet his personality being tugged away from himself and linked the two sides of himself with waveforms to show he was communicating between Russia and Britain.

This magazine spread was a pleasure to work on, and to create an interesting story which is extracted through the visuals.
