The project brief was to design a Tote Bag for VOGUE INDIA's annual fashion event, the 'Fashion's Night Out'. This was a project I completed under my mentor, fahion designer Anamika Khanna. While designing I had to keep in mind the sensibilities of 'Brand Anamika Khanna' which reflects a strong sense of rooted modernity.
This is the initial design we came up with, inspired by a tribal artist's vision of the 'tree of life'. Entwined with nature and balancing on the core foundations of life it branches out into free spirited thoughts and visual line movements. Each line in itself is a resting place for the various creative spirits (here represented by colourful birds). The idea was to reflect the thought that this spirit is the in each of us from the moment we step into this world and enter the vast tree of life. It is only upon us as to how far we choose to go with out explorations to become enlightened and free in the mind.
This was a digital prototype of what the final product would look like if printed on a 100% natural canvas tote also to promote the idea of sustainibility in design.
The initial design had a continuity between the front and back of the tote but we edited and re-edited to simplify the design and make it look more breathable and sophisticated while retaining the original feel.
Since it was meant to be a shopper's bag we thought the 'bar code' would be a relevant as well as a fun, quirky element with the creative souls (birds) feeling empowered with their Vogue FNO shopping bags! We also edited out the background to let the canvas look cleaner and fresher thereby bringing out the design in a more appealing manner.
And voila! We get a glimpse of what a lucky shopper would look like armed with these beauties.  If you like these and want to get your hands on one then don't forget to be there at the Vogue Fashion's Night Out 2015!
