this door handle went through an extensive process of prototyping, revising, re-desinging, and repeating. the original impetus was to create a handle that was fully integrated into the form of the planar door, while remaining ergonomic and functionally clear. the process of NURBS modeling and laser cutting layers to produce the prototypes soon evolved into a process of using real-world materials. ultimately the final product was produced by stacking plywood. this required a process of 3-axis milling a single sheet of plywood on two sides (flip-milling) to produce the smooth transitions between each layer. by making each piece angled on each side, a minimal amount of human labor was required to finish and smooth.
