‘Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food’
Hippocrates 360-240 B.C.

Since Hippocrates time our approach to treating illness has changed. Today doctors receive little if no training in nutrition and modern medicine revolves around ‘a pill for every ill’. Your body has an innate capacity to heal itself, it is a great machine and it knows how to look after itself. However, just like a car needs fuel your body needs nutrients, but with nutritionally-depleted foods, chemical additives and our tendency to rely upon pharmaceutical drugs to treat what’s wrong with our malnourished bodies, it’s no wonder that modern society is getting sicker. Or’ provides a natural and healthy alternative to modern medicine. Highlighting the negative side effects of ‘a pill for every ill’, it encourages the use of orthomolecular medicine to cure illness in the body. With mega dosages of nutrients you can provide your body with what it needs to function at its best and cure any illness. Optimum nutrition is the future of medicine.
                                                                      "FoodMatters Documentary Reference"

This project was designed for the LSAD Graduate Show and was also shortlisted for the IDI Graduate Design Awards 2014. It consists of Eco-Smart Packaging and two books, one which highlights the negative effects of medicine and one that provides alternatives to curing illnesses as serious as depression with the use of natural, organic foods and megadoses of vitamins and minerals.
THE BRANDING

The name "OR'" reflects the aim of the product, to provide an alternative option to medication. It uses the literal meaning of the word 'or' and is also the beginning of all the main words related to natural medicine. For example, ORganic, ORthomolecular, and so on.

in the science of pharmaceutical medicine. As a result they may take the time to learn that natural methods are safer and just as effective if not more.
THE PACKAGING
The labels coincide with the aim of the branding, however, the packaging has a more natural aesthetic so as to stay true to the natural product they contain. The packaging consists of glass and wood and as a result are eco-friendly and reusable.
THE BOOKS
Both books are designed to look the same so as to keep a pharmaceutical medicine reliant person interested, and also to reflect that the science behind orthomolecular medicine is just as prevalent as that of pharmaceutical medicine. However, the orthomolecular book has a wooden binding that relates to the natural packaging of the product and to inform the reader of the change of topic.
THE PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE BOOK
This book highlights just a few of the alarming statistics and facts related to pharmaceutical medicine. Each section outlines an illness, whether common or serious, the causes and symptoms, and the details of the medicine generally prescribed. The negative side effects of these prescription medicines are longer in list than the effects of the initial illness on the body, some with long term or even life threatening side effects. Many of which are rarely known to the consumer.
THE ORTHOMOLECULAR BOOK
This book is contained in a sealed pouch at the back of the medicine book. The idea is that by choosing to remove this book and rip the page you choose to no longer be a part of the drawer effect and to educate yourself on the alternative and safe options that OR' products provide. This book repeats many of the pages of the previous book but shadows it with brightly highlighted information about the the alternative solutions to the illnesses listed and highlights some facts and figures about the success of orthomolecular medicine.
