2001: An Infographic Analysis
2001: An Infographic Analysis

This project was a response to the ADAA (Adobe Design Achievement Awards) print communications category brief, but was never submitted because I completely forgot to apply.

The piece is a 4,000mm long, 840mm tall poster/banner which displays almost every visible and audible element to Stanley Kubrick's classic sci-fi "2001: A Space Odyssey". For those that don't know, it's a 2 hour 20 minute film with about 45 minutes of dialogue, if you're being generous.
There's a key to the left which breaks down the main piece, the long, snaking timeline, into a few categories such as Main Characters, Minor Characters, Locations, Music and other miscellaneous pieces of information.
At the right hand end, you will find the complete dialogue (all 2,300 words or so of it) colour coded by character; the minor roles' colours are intentionally quite light to remove emphasis from their dialogue in this section.

The timeline itself is on a scale of 3mm or 1 degree to one second and is accurate to 1/25th of a second (in other words, to the single frame out of 25).
I'd just like to point out that these photographs were taken by a 'professional' 'photographer' (in other words, a student who wanted money and apparently used his digital camera as a vacuum hoover judging by the amount of dust on the sensor); I appreciate they're not great but I paid for them so I'm going to use them!
