the best of Android. The idea behind droidcon is to support the Android platform and create 

a global network for developers and companies. 

The first two droidcon conferences were organised by an international team of 

Android enthusiasts in Berlin and London in 2009. Since then this community driven 

conference format has spread around the globe rapidly. The conferences offer highclass 

talks from different parts of the Android ecosystem, including core development, 

embedded solutions, augmented reality, business solutions and games.

 

For the official mascotte of the Droidcon I took inspiration from the Mods movement, quite active in the city of Torino during the late 70's and the 80's. The character itself recalls Italy to a foreigner audience, thanks to the presence of the evergreen Vespa Piaggio 

 

It's well known, Italians go crazy for football. This mascotte wears the classic 

outfit of our national football team. 

 

Droids get mad for sweet stuff! Italian ice-creams are generally top-notch and in the city of Torino there are many small ice-cream shop among the best in the whole country. Don't forget that in Torino the genius of 'Domenico Pepino' (an ice-cream maker from Naples) gave born to the 1st  

coated icecream (we call it 'Pinguino' - Penguin)

 

The Museo Egizio is a museum in Turin, Italy, specialising in Egyptian archaeology and anthropology. It houses one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities with more than 30,000 artefacts. In 2006 itreceived 554,911 visitors: it became one of the symbols of the city. The ineriors are designed by the famous scenographer 'Dante Ferretti', the winner of many Academy Awards

 

The concept of Aperitivo has strong roots in our city bars. One of the favourite drinks to to accompany the buffets is without any doubt a glass of Vermouth (our tipical liqueur wine, brought to fame by Martini & Rossi, Cinzano, Carpano, ecc..)

 

Last but not least, the Italian film industry was born, before being moved to Rome, in Torino.

During the last 10 years this industry came back in town and nowadays it seems to flourish again like in the past.

Of great importance is the Torino Film Festival, held in the city every winter.

 

Web banner for the 1st and 2nd edition of Droidcon Hackaton. The hackathon is a contest where various groups of developers/hackers will compete to make the best hack or (in our case) create the best app, for example, using the API provided by the sponsors, or by using Android hardware or smartphone, or achieving a goal proposed by the sponsors, perhaps pursuing social or didactic activities.
