Opeth In Thuluth | Official T-shirt

Opeth in Thuluth is a personal project that i started 3 years ago as a fan art for the legendary band Opeth, Opeth is a progressive metal band from Sweden that is influenced by many diverse musical styles ranging from jazz, 1970s progressive rock, death metal, and blues. Their recent releases have deviated from their traditional death metal influenced style, with more emphasis on progressive elements, I was aiming to transform and translate there logo into Arabic using a 1,000-years-old calligraphy script called Thuluth.

Thuluth is a script variety of Islamic calligraphy invented by the Persian Ibn Muqlah Shirazi,[citation needed] which made its first appearance in the 11th century CE (fourth Hijri). The straight angular forms of Kufic were replaced in the new script by curved and oblique lines. In Thuluth, one-third of each letter slopes, from which the name (meaning “a third” in Arabic) comes. It is a large and elegant, cursive script, used in medieval times on mosque decorations. Various calligraphic styles evolved from Thuluth through slight changes of form
The inspiration came to me from the band's music, Some of their tracks carry an Arabian atmosphere and oriental melodies
such as the intro of bleak, and the rhythms in Atonement and beneath the mire, so the idea came to me and I did transformed it into Arabic, which is written and read from right to left .
The band saw the design and they like the idea, and it's now available on a T-shirt in the band's official store
