Xtreme Kites is located in Miami, right in front of the ocean. The store sells and also rentals kite surf and paddle board equipment and gear.
For this first store, the owner was looking for a relaxed and casual beach style within a low budget.
To minimize the expenses and maximize the impact of the intervention we decided to concentrate efforts in the biggest wall in the unit, which is the one customers would see from outside. This wall unifies the space, catches the attention and displays big kite and paddle boards and equipment by taking advantage of the height of the unit with wavy display devices made of plywood that run along the wall. This display brings the notion of movement and continuity linked to the store concept.
During sunny days, which are frequent in Miami, it might be difficult to see the merchandise through the windows, so indirect fluorescent light was incorporated to the display to balance lighting and reduce contrast and glares, and was colored with blue Plexiglas.
A big mirror at the end of the wavy wall display wall extends the effect of movement and creates a perspective illusion.
