Farming on Ships | March 2011
As we encroach ever more on our forest habitats to make way for agricultural and plantation activity on land, we destroy many valuable untapped resources that forests yield, not to mention animal habitats and precious ecosystems.
We want to initiate a whole new way of thinking to ease the burden of man on our forests by creating agricultural systems nurtured on sea faring vessels like aircraft carriers, oil tankers and cargo ships.
This is our hemp growing sea farm design, the unique feature of this factory is that both raw material and pulp by product are created on the ship. The harvest can create bio fuels, oils, biodegradable plastics, textiles as well as by product to create pulp to make paper from. Sludge produced in the making of the pulp is sold on for the production of cellulose nano crystals.
The ship will incorporate a modular architecture system to allow for vertical stacking of floors to increase hemp growing capacity. It will collect rain water in a closed system where it is re-circulated all on site and incorporate the use of photovoltaic panels to generate electricity.
