Catania is not just history.
It is not just monuments, legacy of the great civilizations that have hinabitated and shaped this land.
Catania is nature, with its own charateristical identity, made of land, fire and water; experienced by animals and plants that inhabit its land and sea.

Initial sketch made by me and Gemma Aloisi
The intent was to divide the two sides of the Catania area, terrestrial and marine, using forms of Mount Etna and the seabed as a profile, in which I illustrated the flora and fauna native.

Close up of the illustration process.
To realize the illustration I used Faber Castell ink pens of various sizes (from 0.5 to 0.005) on Fabriano drawing rough paper.

After the initial phase on paper, the drawing was scanned and imported into Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 in order to correct mistakes and to fix the blacks.

Inside the borders it was then applied a paper texture to imitate the effect of drawing paper used to make the original artwork.

Then, everything was exported in resolution 300 dpi (color profile: FOGRA39) and set in a new Adobe InDesign document.

Finally it was printed on Demi Matte paper (250g).
