Chicago-based restaurant endgrain approached me to do an illustrated postcard as a promotional item for their business. The basis was that food-service establishments in The Windy City like to present their employees' paychecks along with a postcard representing their place, and there is an unspoken rivalry amongst them to have the best, most interesting design.
I chose to create an illustrated pattern inspired by symmetrical folk art designs (Pennsylvania Dutch, Kurbits, mandalas, etc.) featuring antique etchings of their current seasonal menu items.
