Based in Queens Borough, New York, Major League Baseball Team “The New York Mets” has a winning history of two World Series Titles, four National League Pennants and five National League East titles.
The Mets were founded on one reason, to serve as a replacement. The year was 1962, and the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers were transferring to become San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers, leaving the great New York City, the largest city in America, with no National League Franchise and only one Major League Team (New York Yankees). But thru the efforts of William Shea, an American lawyer, he was able to make the National league expand thus creating the New York Mets. They used the colours of the former Giant orange and the Dodgers Blue, and taking up the name The New York Metropolitans.
From 1962 to 1968, the Mets played the worst regular season since the 162-game change in Major League Baseball. They always finished second to last. Until a miracle happened, the 1969 “Amazin’ Mets” one over the Baltimore Orioles and one there first World Series Championship. Donn Clendenon, the Mets’ first baseman was named the series’ most valuable player with 0.357 batting average, three home runs, and four runs batted in.
The Mets have already gotten three rivalries since their start. A rivalry to become New York City’s best team: The New York Yankees versus the New York Mets. The rivalry between the best in the National League East: The New York Mets versus the Atlanta Braves also including the Philadelphia Phillies, which is also part of the National League East.
When the New York Mets started they started playing at the Polo Grounds from 1962-1963, then in honour of the founder of the Mets, William Shea, they built Shea Stadium. This served as their home from 1964-2008. Presently they play at Citi Field, Queens, New York.
