For my portrait of Chelsea Henson, this is her selfie photo that I used as a reference to illustrate.
In my work flow, I start by laying out contour wire frame of the facial details from Chelsea’s selfie.
I use CYMK yellow, as it stands out very well against the j-peg image for the frame work.
Well under way, I have filled in the face shape element in with Pantone Uncoated colors. In this shot,
I have the base shading of her facial structure in, with the eye sockets.
If you look closely, you can see the faint yellow lines of her glasses, which is the next step to tackle.
The glasses were a hard step, as I had to punch out shapes and overlap elements with gradient fills with ruby red and black gradients. I also filled in her eyes, with both gradients and bristle brush strokes to add in depth and dimension.
After I did the glasses, I moved on to her hair. This step was a series of layers, consisting of a main vector layer of her hair, with two other layers stacked on top to add the feel of depth, with a wide variety of brush strokes.
Next, I moved up, and painted in the top sections of her hair. This was tricky; as I had to shift some elements from bottom to top.
Nearing the end, I colored in the gray T-shirt with multiple shades of gray, and
filled in several shades to give the feel of light form her right side.
After filling in the background with simple vectored shapes for the doors, here is her portrait- Chelsea Henson.
