Battlecode Programming Competition
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2009 to 2012
MIT's Battlecode Competition in January is a big draw for potential employers and allows Computer Science students to prove their worth to peers. Their promotional materials, once crudely thrown together by students, were in need of a professional touch to appear more "epic" and engaging.
First, I created a logo that evoked a Battlestar Galactica, cyberwar-esque look and feel. This would go on all the posters for continuity, to bring a standard look to the competition.

When stock images didn't meet the students' needs for art, I turned to illustrators to create custom works that met the "theme" for each year's competition. Working as designer, art director, and project manager, I would translate the client's initial idea into something tangible for the illustrator, then we'd work together to create the posters, shirts, and web graphics.
Final production was always my responsibility. I cropped art, added the logo and text, ensured that files are formatted correctly, and worked with the shirt printer to get the components out on our very tight schedule.
I also created the in-game sprites (simplified icons to used represent 3D-modeled components on-screen) and any web graphics they needed.
