One of the chief aims of Rotary International is to provide access to clean water and adequate sanitation. According to Rotary’s estimates, approximately 3,000 children worldwide die every day due to diarrheal diseases caused by unclean water.

To help combat this problem, Rotary members work to implement toilets and other clean water initiatives in underdeveloped countries. Volunteers also teach local community members about maintaining their new sanitation infrastructure and practicing healthy hand-washing and personal hygiene habits to cut down on disease outbreaks. One current project led by Rotary member Samuel Obour involves installing latrines, toilets, and washing stations across the country of Ghana.
