Metate / Metlatl The Metate was the most important kitchen utensil of the Mesoamerican villages. Used to grind and crush corn, chile peppers and cacao, it was usually made from volcanic stone. The Metate is still being used in many Latin-American countries.  It is believes that the Metate gets impregnated with the flavor of the spices and condiments grinded on it, resulting in the very mystic combinations of flavors that are the cornerstone to the character in Latin-American foods. The Metla seat conserves the Metate´s form almost intact, which intuitively can be compared with the form of a seat (chaise lounge), calling upon a Latin scent.
