Aurora - Expanding Backpack

The outdoor activity industry is saturated with specialised, performance driven products, appealing to those who either are, or aspire to be, ‘extreme’ users. Backpacks are one example of such products. Whilst functional, high quality packs designed for specific outdoor uses are readily available, an opportunity was identified to design a more versatile backpack. This backpack has been designed to better meet the needs of people who require a backpack for everyday use, taking items to and from their place of work, and who also take occasional trips into the outdoors, but who don’t want to compromise on the technical functionality required for outdoor activities. The pack expands from 22 litres to 44 litres by unzipping a open ended zip positioned around the backplate.

This project was a final undergraduate degree project by Felix Kenchington at the University of Edinburgh. It was exhibited at New Designers in London from 1st - 4th July 2015.
