Recognising that our new cyber generation appears to be increasingly showing a lack of social etiquette as phone interaction has become a habit, my piece aims to recapture the essence of social manners through the innovation of wireless phone charging. Having portal spaces within the table allows the user to charge their phone whilst encouraging disengaging with the phone as the glass works as a sublte physical barrier to promote more unified conversation. The recent advancement in modern wireless technology has seen that most new phone models are now building wireless compatibility into standard manufacture! For slightly older models, cases are also availble to allow them to work with wireless charging.
Not only using the seperate surfaces as a method to establish boundaries for approriate phone interaction, the table also offers users more table space whilst protecting the users phone from any mess.
The concept offers the potential to enhance its function through the us of smart glass which has the ability to change its transparancy from clear to opaque. This would work well to suit the various social contexts in which the table may be used, for example in a buisness meeting scenario, the users would select the profile using the corresponding app and the table top would cloud over to create a more established boundary between users and their phones.
