Revelation is a metaphor for the way we make choices in life—and the way life makes choices for us. It represents a single moment of daydreaming and introspection on the part of a young man riding a commuter train. As he gazes out a window, the foggy scene closes in on him, obscuring the real world, and he himself begins to move forward along the tracks.
On his left, a childhood friend waves him ahead as if inviting him on a journey. On the right, a man greets him. The tracks then disappear into a snowy path through the woods, and the young man passes an older man who encourages him to keep going. On the other side is a young woman who appears to be pleading with him, perhaps not to continue along the path.
These passing figures, many of them representing important people in the young man’s life, often reach out to him, but he must leave them behind as he searches for something more. He finally realizes that he cannot know his destiny, yet. The young man is relieved by this insight, and, as the roar of the train wakes him from his revery, he smiles.
