The Power of Words Project kicks off with the community writing the words they chose for the vision
they hold for Laguna Beach on the big grey wall where the previous mural was. This 2003 LCAD
student mural was destroyed earlier this year to the dismay of all.

”The mission of the Power of Words Project is to bring the power of words to life by using the transformative influence of art through a community-based creative humanitarian mural project.
Vision:Each participating community will be asked to define, through an interactive, internet selection process, the one word that defines their vision for their community’s ideal future. Our team will collaborate with local artists and students to create murals based upon each community’s chosen word, with the intention of planting seeds that define and inspire growth and focus for the community. Our goal is to bond and engage communities and create a tapestry of conversation, throughout the entire creative process, with those served by this project, unveiling common threads that hold community members together.
It’s a very simple idea: thoughts become words…and words become actions…
Words are powerful…words are seeds that, when planted in the heart of a community can grow into a unified vision. Words complete the space between your thoughts and your actions…words can inspire change and well-chosen words can transform.

The idea of planting seeds with a single word is so simple that it is difficult to see the power in it… that simplicity is the point.
