Talisman of Hangul Type

 

In South Korea, Folk belief has been followed until now. Typical practice in folk belief is that shaman makes the talisman. Talisman is paper that attaches to the body or sticks the house, by drawing a picture or writing a letter with a red color in order to exorcise the evil spirits and to chase the disaster. Now there are many people who are using the talisman. And they believe that talisman brings good things to them.

 

 

Visual feature of talisman takes shape of the maximum curve that type characteristics of the oriental character in which culture bases of a writing brush. Another feature of content arranged repeatedly shape that a particular part of the character according to the wishes of aspirations. Achieving the wish and schematized structural elements appears to be visually one of the figure form a harmony. For example, Talisman has repeatedly shape that has more sense with a good meaning. It delivers a strong mean to interaction with shape of more meaning and forming element. We had work as designers dealing with type to proceed by paying attention to the above features.

 

We were planed a new lettering work by re-interpreting these elements. Traditional talisman is influenced by China, mainly to exorcise the evil spirits and to chase the disaster. That reason is difficult part to contact with the simplicity. This not for the purpose, Ordinary modern people want that anyone can contact easily a familiar talisman.

 

First, We worked that it maintains a longitudinally long rectangular plate shape of basic talisman and using red color of original identity. Through subsequent investigation, we divided the five categories education, employment, health, love, they can appear effectively, express with using the four characters idioms format that can make the best visual stable structure. When entering the lettering work, we utilize a space of constant thickness and directing the same atmosphere with a various form of shape. By following the particular form and using repeat, it was inherited by past talisman of characteristic elements. This makes it possible to maintain the identity of the talisman, to realize talisman of a new Hangul incorporating the words that Koreans wanted was created.
