As part our Discovery class, a requirement of the Masters of Design in Digital Futures at OCAD University, we were tasked with developing a future world through film and transmedia. Expanding on trends in communication, biosecurity, environmental concerns, we developed a film about a future product called The Feeler. We took a comical angle to the project by focusing on parody and the awkwardness of wearing head-up displays. The film was released in two parts: an initial intro trailer, and then the short film, which were both available online at thefeelerfilm.com. As viewers explored the site and followed the links, a hidden conspiracy was revealed that played on current trends and concerns in privacy and the commercial use of big data.
The year is 2025 and after years of texting the spoken word has become irrelevant. Our minds move like lightning zapping from one idea to the next at an increasingly rapid speed. But the increased tempo of daily life has not saved us from the needs of nature. Pollution has taken over our air, and in order to live on we invented The Feeler. Enter into the lives of four characters living in the turbulent world of The Feeler as they encounter life, death, and the daily grind. In this online release you will be transported to Toronto in the year 2025, and all the conspiracies that go along with it.
