I have a strange obsession when it comes to WWII and that time period in history. Yes, I understand the event that occurred in our history is beyond terrible, I lost my great grandfather at war. I don’t know a whole lot about him besides that he was killed in a tank while they were resting in the middle of nowhere. The German infantry somehow got to the tank and managed to throw a Molotov type explosive into the cabin that lead to instant death. My obsession with that time comes from the history itself, the weapons, military uniforms, military vehicle and aviation designs. I have seen nearly all the WWIImovies and to today, I would say my favorites would have to be Downfall, and Schindler’s List and the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers.
Not long ago I had to do a photo shoot for a military game that occurred during WWII. The objective was to capture a variety poses that would be used as design elements to create advertising materials. A 12 hour day with six models representing 3 German Army and 3 UStroops. We were provided a detailed shot list to go through which included: Action poses, stealth poses, emotional poses, and portraits. Whenever I get an opportunity to do shoots like this one, the day before the photo shoot, I always make sure to build a soundtrack pulling songs from several movie scores. The soundtrack provides support for actors to get into character and deliver a great performance. This photo shoot was a remarkable one, a dream come true. Everything from the acting, wardrobe, detailed make-up, weapons, and soundtrack made this shoot intensely real as if you were part of the movie.
