Music in Architecture: Architecture in Music

To study the relationships between music and architecture, the
Christian Science Center Plaza in Boston was chosen based on its
linear, proportional, and rhythmic qualities. These aspects were
analyzed to find connections from the existing architecture to a
musical concept that will provide a basis for the construction of a
music composition.
The linear quality of the plaza provided a connection to the linear
relationship music holds to time. I walked the site from one end to
the other and timed the experience. The walk took 5 minutes and 30
seconds. I later used this time to mark the length of my music
composition.
