Background
The University of Iowa is a university located in Iowa City, Iowa.
It is the first university to accept academic credit for Creative Work, developed the Master of Fine Arts degree and creating the most renowned Writer's Workshop in the world.
The university has eleven colleges and enrolled 30,893 students for fall semester 2011. It is that big so it is completely understandable if the official homepage, for me, a little bit busy (Dec. 2011), considering the information they have to provide. Furthermore, the domain name of the official website is organised into eleven subdomains, each of them has eleven different user interface and webdesign.
Restoring their historical colours was the first thing came to mind. The University has its school colours in 1887. The Old Gold was adapted from the colour of Iowa's corn fields, whilst Black was the colour of the soil itself.
The next thing was to bring a more organised architecture to the layout, creating a more adaptive environment, efficient design, easy-to-use-and easy-to-learn user interface.
As shown here in the wireframe, I was trying to build more flexible and adaptive system of the interface. Providing one single layout but sufficient enough to accommodate different colours,
different styles, and different images of the eleven different and unique colleges, with no need to
change the main interface. Hence it supports usability, providing people with ease of use
and learnability.

The website's mobile version
The concept is neither to criticise nor to challenge the actual website. The creation of this design originally and solely self-motivated, intended as an experiment.
