I based my project around the Japanese film director and animator Hayao Miyazaki. His Company Studio Ghibli will be celebrating 30 years of work this June, and using this information, I was able to create a fictitious cinema event in celebration of this over that weekend.
As Miyazaki strongly believes in traditional animation, I was able to replicate this within my poster (etc) through the use of hand rendered typography. The three films of Miyazaki's I chose to focus on were 'My Neighbour Totoro', 'Princess Mononoke', and 'Spirited Away', which all feature strong links to nature.
This poster is advertising a three day celebration event of the Japanese animator, Hayao Miyazaki’s work, close to the 30th anniversary of his animation studio, Studio Ghibli.
Held at the Empire cinema in Leicester Square London, the poster, (both the digital moving version, and the still-image version) would be displayed around the city, advertising this event. The hand-rendered type used on the poster mimics Miyazaki’s traditional animated style, and the use of the raindrops give reference to a scene in one of Miyazaki’s film ‘My Neighbour Totoro’, as well as reiterate the theme of nature within all of his films. Following this concept, the tickets for the event are also clear, enabling the move-goer to see their environment through it.
