My final year project is the design of a Science Fiction Genre, FIlm Production Centre. Catering to the needs of amateur film makers, film set deisgners and other occupations which contribute towards the making of a film piece. The Film Production Centre aims to provide of industrial standard environment as well as a place to network between fellow film makers.
To make a successful production centre three main aspects needed to be addressed, Production, Projection, and Education. The area of production includes a sound stage, audio booths and a green screen; all up to industry standard to enable film makers to make the best quality films. The Education sector of the building holds exhibition spaces and class rooms to enhance the knowledge of the buildings users. Lastly, a projection section gives a formal setting for the film creators to premiere their work in both a cinema and visual theatre setting. With the addition of a café to hold functions and entertain both viewers and filmmakers.
By looking further into the Science Fiction genre, it brought to my attention the regarded creators of the genre, Jules Verne and H.G.Wells. Both Wells and Verne pushed the limits of fiction forming Sci-Fi, consequently motivating many films, both of their own writing and others. Not only did they challenge literature but also the technology of their age, creating fictional machines such as rockets and submarines, inventions that came decades after their time. This creativity and futuristic invention is what inspired me in the design of the Film Production Centre, merging the ironwork of their age with an ultramodern element of projecting light to stimulate its users who hope produce the next ageless film.
