Mens Domestic Abuse poster

For this brief I had to produce an A2 campaign poster which communicated something we were angry about. It also had to include a charity or organisation that we were doing the poster on behalf. I picked the topic of Mens domestic abuse. This was because I think the media and many organisations hide the topic of mens domestic abuse and concentrated only on Woman’s domestic abuse. From a lot of research I found that there is in fact a large number of men which are victims of domestic abuse and I wanted to communicate this message in a clear but emotional way. From stories that I had read, I found out that most of the men are to scared and feel ashamed to ask for help or they try to ask for help by giving subtle hints to people. Therefore I wanted to look at a way in which a man was attempting to communicate but not succeeding, as not everyone understands him. This led me to look at sign language. The sign language used in this poster means ‘Help’. This shows that he wants and needs help but it isn’t able to communicate this through speech, instead he’s subtly asking in a way that only some people will understand. I also decided to use ‘40% of domestic abuse victims are men’ fact on the poster as I it leaves a lasting effect on the audience after they have read it; as its shocking and not very well known. The image is my own photograph and then I used photoshop to add the bruises etc.
