Context: An inflight safety card is the most important piece of literature on a plane.
Issue: And yet, it is one of the least considered items of print on the vehicle.
Goal: To make the safety card be the most 'looked at' item of print on the plane, preferably more so than the inflight magazines or newspapers.
Action: Reinterpret and redesign the information and make applicable to children as well as adults.
Result: Two separate responses for children and adults. For the children I created a colouring in sheet where I redrew all of the illustrations. For the adults, I simplified the information into a clean infographic. I also tried to add a more personal feel to the brochures by making them into fold out letters addressed ''Dear Passenger'. My final drafts were then presented to the seniors at The Potting Shed who gave me a critique and commentary. Overall it went very well. They really liked the idea of getting young children to engage with the safety precautions and also the idea of providing a form of entertainment for them which would keep them occupied and quiet whilst on the plane journey. They also liked the simplicity of the design when considering the fold out envelope safety card an the personal touch that ‘Dear Passenger’ added as it was less likely to be ignored or discarded when compared to a usual inflight safety card. The simple sleek design of the icons and safety illustrations made the legibility quick and easy to understand for a modern day person.
