Branding Boston as a host city for the 2024 Olympics was an exciting challenge, and I was eager to represent Boston in an authentic and elegant manner.

While tradition is a binding facet of the city, Boston provides a foundation upon which its citizens are encouraged and motivated to further themselves and build a space where they can thrive and inspire others. This idea was something that I wanted to keep in mind as I visually represented Boston.

Below is a brand proposal book I designed and curated to showcase how the brand would function.
I made the decision to design a logo inspired by the abundance of arches within the architecture of Boston. Arches provide support to architectural structures, just as Boston provides support to its citizens. I believe that Bostonians have very high standards for their city, thus an arch seemed like an appropriate metaphor to demonstrate this relationship.

I chose the Boston Harbor Hotel as a source of visual inspiration. The five-star waterfront luxury hotel is located on the historic Rowes Wharf Harbor. The arch overlooking the waterfront is an iconic symbol of the city; its welcoming ambiance paired with bold lines and shapes represents Boston's character.
Final logomark
Each Olympic icon is designed using the same forms and curvature as the logo itself.
Our banners use photographs of athletes in moments of triumph and success, shown beneath around the rotated logo’s vector shapes. The logo serves to frame the athlete so they are displayed in the counter space of the arch. The Olympic rings are shown at the top right corner.

The typeface chosen for the Boston Olympics is Seria. Designed by Martin Majoor in 2000, it is best known for its usage in literary work, featuring long ascenders and descenders, both in serif and sans. Majoor describes the letterforms as “wittingly irregular” with “unconventional curves,” typographic qualities that fit the character of Boston’s charm as well.
