Liberty London on Regent Street is a high-end internationally and historically iconic department store that exudes eclecticism, craftsmanship and cutting edge design in the heart of cosmopolitan London, and celebrates their 140th birthday in May 2015. To mark the occasion, this 'design solution' idea includes a bespoke gift for the gold cardholders and ‘Friends’ of Liberty to reflect their exclusivity, a box holding a handcrafted book with narrative within, characterising Liberty’s ‘Story of Style’, with an invite to a celebratory event, and a snapshot of Liberty’s long history. This element is entirely handmade and crafted to create this luxury item that, with its simplistic and elegant exterior, opens in an explosion of colour, using many authentic elements including the iconic purple, Liberty print ribbon and classic prints taken directly from original fabric swatches from Liberty. The inside creates a sense of walking through the different departments using paper craft, resembling the store when the book is popped up. A paper craft hot air balloon tag then translates across to a window display visualisation for the store, of vintage balloons bringing gifts to Liberty, with small details including origami cranes to give a nod to Liberty’s origins, again including the narrative and history.
