Pop-up store

This project was carried out in a multidisciplinary team with members from six different countries. The goal of the project was to design a movable and modular space that could be used as a temporal replacement for shops, in the case, for example, that they needed to renovate their main buildings. The Pop-up store has to be sustainable and energy efficient, and the interior and furniture design needs to be flexible to meet the different kinds of shops needs.
To offer the possibility of having different sizes, the final shape is modular and so combinations with two or three units can be made. The green lines indicate the connection faces between modules.
For the energy efficiency matter, it was decided that passive energy systems would be applied, therefore, the shape helps the airflow, fresh air comes in and warm air goes up and leaves the building thanks to a ventilation system. It also allows the sunlight to brighten the interior in different ways according to year seasons, that is why, to know which was the best place to position the windows to seize sunlight, a shadows study in the shop location was made (Antwerp, Belgium).
The Pop-up store offers many identity tools to allow the different types of shops to adapt their brands. As an example, two different businesses were selected, a clothes shop and a coffee shop, which are well-known and can be easily recognised: H&M and Starbucks.
The furniture has been designed in a way that offers a wide flexibility and different functions with the less pieces. The final results consits on five parts: three different frames and two boards. With only these, up to twelve functions can be solved:
The furniture can be attached to the building thanks to a hooks system, and so offering the functions of shelves and hangers for a clothes shop. The panels with holes are also very useful, the hooks can be used to hang exposition clothes, signs, posters, hats, scarfs... (in a clothes or accessories shop); and people's jackets or handbags, the menu, flowerpots, decoration, etc. (in a café).
