Chamber News is a monthly publication of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. Each month, this 56-page publication features a Sioux Falls business-oriented cover story as well as visitor industry news, business news, insights on legislative issues, interesting stats about Sioux Falls, suggestions on how to utilize your Chamber membership and a place to "Be Seen" in pictures from recent events. Advertising is sold by Argus Leader Media and many large and notable Sioux Falls companies regularly choose to place ads in the magazine.
ABOUT THE DESIGN PROCESS
Chamber News is published by Chamber staff. My particular role is layout and design. I conceived of the initial design of this format of Chamber News, which premiered in September 2014. Previously, it was a tabloid-style newspaper. I created the typographic style, layout and design assets for the magazine design from scratch. My goal with the design was to fit the Chamber brand, but to also make sure it stood alone as a publication.
Each ongoing month, I am responsible for the cover image, as well as any feature story graphics. Every issue features an infographic in the Noteworthy section, which I often design. I do almost all of the text-setting, layout and color-correction with final approval from the editor, who conceives of and writes most of the content. Turn-around time for Chamber News is very short - often less than a week. We are very proud of the high-quality product we can produce in such a small amount of time.
