Sony Global TV Campaign: Braviadrome

The brief was to find a way to demonstrate Sony's latest Motionflow technolgy- which delivers their smoothest picture ever, by seamlessly joining together a series of still images. Our solution was to use the world's oldest moving image technology- a Zoetrope- in order to demonstrate this principle. In order to reproduce a life size image of footballer Kaka demonstrating his skills, the Zoetrope needed to be over 15metres in diameter and it took 3 months to design and build. The Zoetrope was assembled in a square in Northern Italy over two days and remained in place for weeks as an event which was viewed by thousands. After filming for the commercial, a brief went out to film and animation students to create their own animation sequences to place in the Zoetrope. Plans were in place for the Zoetrope to become a permanent exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image, but sadly funding was not forthcoming and the whole machine was eventually scrapped.
