Treasured Photographs
About fifteen years ago, my Great Aunt Fran gave four photographs to my oldest son.  The photographs were taken by her son, Salvatore "Sonny" Palumbo.  He had been serving in the United States Army after World War II.  He was stationed in Gorizia, Italy as an army photographer working with the Intelligence & Education Department.  My great aunt was so proud of her only son.  His photographs were a treasured possession.  On one of his last assignments, Sonny photographed General Eisenhower inspecting the Blue Devils 88th Division.  Soon afterwards, on June 10th, 1947, “Corporal Salvatore Palumbo died of multiple fractures of the skull received in a motorcycle accident.”

Lost and Found
Since last August, I have been reading a book by Randy Sims entitled, "The Greatest Among You, A Student's Guide to Servant Leadership" There is a great Eisenhower quote in the fifth chapter which is about "Integrity".  When I read it, immediately I thought of making a collage with Sonny's Photographs.  But since that visit with Aunt Fran, I lost track of them.  Then a few weeks ago, I found them when I was looking through a file cabinet.   I still can’t figure out how they got filed with our birth certificates.  All this to say, I am thankful that I found them.
A Thank You Gift
In May, I arranged for the RI HOPE student leadership team to spend some time with Randy Sims via Google Hangouts.  The teens discussed the eighth chapter of his book and Randy encouraged them to be Servant Leaders.  He invited them to continue the discussion by joining him in Jaffrey, NH at a Christianity and Culture Conference.  My daughter and I went with two friends.   Randy’s first talk was about Servant Leadership and he put the Eisenhower quote up on the screen.  The thought went through my head to make that print and give it to him as a thank you gift.  Above you see my first attempt and below my second attempt.
Finally Got It Right
Today I made another attempt using Photoshop.  With a little help from my 12 year old son and a little advice from my 25 year old son.   I hope you like the new photo print.  It is dedicated to “Men of Integrity”.
