The Tamworth Lyceum is a specialty mercantile, coffee shop, grocery & gallery in New Hampshire. Originally owned and operated as a general store from 1911-2009, the building was renovated in 2011. As the project manager and lead designer for Great Hill Farm and the Tamworth Lyceum project, I managed the property acquisition and design of both the architectural renovation and business plan. The revived space aspires to be a modern New England Lyceum. Archival research and informal oral histories of the Tamworth community grounded the project design. An intergenerational team of skilled craftsmen, carpenters, and project managers brought the vision to fruition, and played an integral role in decisions around the use of local and salvaged materials, and how to prepare the building for the trials a New England climate for another hundred years. The Tamworth Lyceum continues to be part mercantile, part art studio and part general community space for this town in the northernmost reaches of New Hampshire. Visit TAMWORTHLYCEUM.COM Read Less
