This piece is an exploration of material and texture throughout type treatment. I assembled the phrase “You Only Live Once” as a personal poster; I wanted to explore something outside of my own look. In the process, I envisioned it black and white and worked on mixing different textures together that would mingle well together. Chrome letters and distortion of type inspired me. I looked into patterns that involved one or two colors with a clean spark to them. As you can see, the poster showcases a flow from clear to distorted and melted letters. My goal was to incorporate action in a static design that would create more engagement and energy. This project started with pen and pencil and kept evolving with the help of Illustrator and Photoshop. In Illustrator, I created the basic shapes that would frame the letters, and then took these shapes into Photoshop to administer textures and proper lighting and shading treatments.
